According to some estimates, in the USA 40 billion individual plastic utensils are discarded every single year! And because the plastic they are made out of is not easy to recycle, the best-case scenario is when they end up in landfills. But it is very common for plastic cutlery to become litter. In fact, some reports indicate that they are one of the top 5 items found in beach cleanups.
These are items that we enjoy for maybe 10 minutes and take up to 200 years to decompose. Does that make any sense at any level?
